A CE Adventure

WVC presents the second Destination CE with a trip to Herradura, Costa Rica for five nights, Sept. 16-21, 2018. Stay at Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, which is only minutes away from picturesque nature preserves and the world-famous Jaco Beach. Earn CE as renowned instructors Drs. Michael Lappin and Catriona MacPhail lead sessions on feline infectious diseases and soft tissue surgery. During downtime, enjoy fun outdoor activities including horseback riding, zip-lining, and hiking.

The course: In this lecture series entitled Hot Topics in Feline Infectious Diseases and Soft Tissue Surgery, Drs. Lappin and MacPhail will use a case based approach to update the participants on approximately 30 Hot Topics  including diagnosis and treatment of Giardia, Tritrichomonas, Hemoplasmas, Bartonella, and URI as well as updates on a number of GI and urinary surgical diseases.

Instructors of Feline Medicine & Surgery

Michael Lappin, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)

Dr. Lappin graduated from Oklahoma State University, completing an internship, his residency and Ph.D. program in Parasitology at the University of Georgia.  His principal areas of interest are prevention of infectious diseases, the upper respiratory disease complex, infectious causes of fever, infectious causes of diarrhea, and zoonoses.

Dr. Lappin is the Kenneth W. Smith Professor of Small Animal Clinical Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and helps direct the shelter medicine program.  He is the director of the “Center for Companion Animal Studies.”  He was awarded the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award, the European Society of Feline Medicine International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Feline Medicine, the Winn Feline Research Award, the ACVIM Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence, and the WSAVA Scientific Achievement Award.

Catriona MacPhail, DVM, PhD, DACVS

Dr. MacPhail graduated from Texas A&M University in 1996. She completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Colorado State University (CSU) followed by a small animal surgical residency. After completing her residency in 2000, Dr. MacPhail completed a two-year fellowship at CSU in soft tissue and oncologic surgery. She was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2002.

Dr. MacPhail has been on faculty at CSU as an associate professor in small animal soft tissue surgery since 2002. Her primary clinical interest is soft tissue surgery with an emphasis on upper and lower respiratory disease, wound management and reconstructive surgery.
